Current Journals
More than 5,000 current electronic journals are accessible from the library's website at calder.med.miami.edu. Several hundred print subscriptions are shelved on the second floor.
Retrospective Journals
All journal volumes prior to 2000 are shelved alphabetically* by title on the second floor (1961 - present) or on the lower level (1800 - 1960).
Books
All textbooks and monographs that circulate are shelved on the third floor according to the National Library of Medicine classifications scheme. Electronic books are accessible from the library's website at calder.med.miami.edu.
Reference Books & Journals
Dictionaries, directories and other reference books are shelved on the third floor. Current indexes, abstracts, and other reference journals are shelved alphabetically* by title on the second floor.
Audiovisual
On the lower level in the Learning Resources Center are more than 3,000 videotapes, audiotapes, videodisks and other non-print material arranged like the book collection by the NLM Classification Scheme.
Consumer Health
The Ellen Gartenfeld Health Information Network Collection which consists of books, journals, and other materials on consumer health written for the lay person, is shelved in the third floor.
Historical
In the Emanuel M. Papper, M.D., History of Medicine Room on the third floor are collections of archival materials, the Dr. Martin B. Raskin Rare Book Collection, the Anderson, Blank, Millard and Schiff Collections, books and journals on the history of medicine, illustration, portrait, medallion, stamp, and other collections.
Ophthalmology
In the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital is the Mary and Edward Norton Library of books, journals, audiovisuals, and historical materials in ophthalmology.
Department Libraries
The department of Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry each maintain core collections in their specialty.
*Alphabetization follows that of the National Library of Medicine's journal title listings which ignores articles, prepositions, and conjunctions.
