New Discovery Tool for ‘Too Many Databases, Too Little Time’
The new ‘Quick Search’ option on Calder’s website lets you enter one search query, select the subject or type of databases you want to search, and then rapidly search across pre-selected databases to discover the databases most relevant to your search query. For example, enter a query and select ‘Evidence-Based Medicine’ to quickly determine the number of citations relevant to your query in each EBM database. Select ‘Catalogs” to perform one search in all three University of Miami Library Catalogs.
The full Quick Search option is on the Library’s website under Quick Links. A Quick Search option appears on each Portal with categories of databases relevant to the Portal. The following categories of databases are now available for the Quick Search option:
Animal Use Alternatives
Catalogs
Consumer Health Resources
Evidence-Based Medicine
E-Books: Aggregators/Packages
E-Databases: Medical, Biomedical and Psychosocial
In addition to Quick Searches, users can also search individually selected categories or databases by clicking the “more options” in the quick search box listed on our home page.
Faculty and staff in the Reference and Systems departments of the Library customized the WebFeat federated search engine to create the Quick Search option for medical center clients to quickly discover which databases are the most appropriate for a specific search.
